This house, whose site is now wholly occupied by Palace Gate, was built in 1804 for George Aust, Secretary to the Royal Hospital at Chelsea. The architect was George Byfield. Its three and a half acre site was leased to Aust for ninety nine years in February 1805. Six years later Aust bought the freehold.
